E-commerce platform Paytm Mall has temporarily suspended penalties for merchants under its service level agreement to accommodate sellers facing logistical difficulties during lockdown.

Paytm Mall has extended the deadline to ship existing orders from its platform until April 22, the retailer announced. Merchants selling on the platform are usually charged a penalty fee if orders are cancelled or delayed but, as the current lockdown only permits the sale of essential products, many sellers cannot currently fulfil orders. Many sellers face a lack of inventory and lack of logistics, including manpower.

“These are unprecedented circumstances and Paytm Mall's merchant support and communication teams are working hard to ensure all seller queries are resolved timely and updated information regarding order processing and fulfilment are shared with them regularly,” Paytm Mall’s senior vice president, Srinivas Mothey, told ET Retail.

Paytm Mall currently has one lakh pending orders placed by customers on its platform. The business is working with its courier partners to fulfil the orders, which are yet to be processed by sellers, it told ET Retail.

Paytm Mall, run by digital payments business Paytm, is currently only accepting orders on ‘essential’ items such as food and personal care products. Paytm Mall’s website homepage also informs customers that pending orders will see delivery delays.
