On March 3, Payal Khandwala will take up permanent residence at Cinnamon, a multi brand boutique in a century old Haveli in Bengaluru, and open its first flagship store in the city there. Cinnamon has already carried some Payal Khandwala pieces but, from March 3, the brand’s entire range of ready to wear and accessories will be available on the premises.

The Bengaluru flagship store will be designed much as the brand’s two flagship stores in Mumbai. The design is “minimal but dramatic” according to the brand’s press release and one wall will feature a floral mural hand painted by Khandwala herself to reference the garden city of Bengaluru.

Khandwala will open the boutique with her latest collection, “Bloom”, in time for the festival of Holi which itself inspired the collection. Colour blocked garments in handloom textiles are designed to celebrate India’s love of colour and the festival of Holi. “Colour used in the right proportions can be just as sophisticated as black, beige and indigo,” said Khandwala in a press release, “and I have always disliked the assumption that vivid colour is somehow vulgar, less refined.”

Alongside the ready to wear collection, Khandwala is releasing a line of bold accessories including floral motif necklaces. “Our floral ‘Tachi’ brass accessories were inspired by some of the flowers that were originally used to create the pigment for Holi - Jacaranda, Roses, Saffron, Marigold and Gulmohar,” explained Khandwala.
