Payal Khandwala 'Indessesntial' trilogy closes with collection of wedding lehengas

Wedding lehengas for the unconventional bride is the tag line of Payal Khandwala’s final instalment of her three part 'Indessesntial' collection, launched on October 11 for the holiday season.

Khandwala explained that her bridal collection is for, “Women that are practical, that want to enjoy the party, and prefer not be broke at the end of it.”

Khandwala went on to explain her collection: “I keep in mind the practicality of being able to pack light and with ease, for destination weddings. And offer a range of easy separates for festive dressing that can be switched around and teamed with other staples from our label, so that you can wear them to Diwali parties, cocktails, dinners, and other related celebrations.”

This is a collection designed to be worn time and time again, unlike most bridal wear.

One striking item from Khandwala’s collection is the “little saree”, which is a small version of a traditional saree that is designed to be worn over different outfits from jeans and a t-shirt to more formal ensembles. It is designed to be easier to wear and more versatile than full size sarees and this epitomises her collection that takes traditional garments and adapts them for a paired down style.

Payal Khandwala has a background in fine arts and studied in both New York and Barcelona before returning to her native Mumbai. Khandwala’s eponymous brand is based in Mumbai where she has a flagship store and is also available across India at multi- brand outlets as well as online at Pernia’s Pop-Up Shop.
