On Wednesday, Payal Jain released a video presentation of her new collection, which was broadcast across the Fashion Design Council of India’s social media accounts. Holy Script presented a soft, yet strong take on femininity with painterly patterns, chiffon ruffles and layers, and indigenous style accessories.

The collection explores traditional jacquard techniques including Kadua and Katrauan, which have been woven in silk yarn. The vibrant colour palette of reds, yellows, greens, and blues was inspired by traditional Buddhist Thanka paintings, Jain shared on Facebook with the FDCI.

The romantic yet wearable silhouettes features wrap-style necklines, sheer puff sleeves, ruffles, and maxi-lengths. The collection had a resort wear feel to it, but also had ample looks for the festive season with high-neck dresses gowns.

Models wore large tikas across their brows and natural makeup by fashion week sponsor Lotus Makeup. Some of the models wore several thin braids in their hair, adorned with raw threads and cowrie shells to create a free-spirited and ethereal aesthetic.

“Beginning from the Ghats of Benaras, into narrow alleys of Assi Ghat, experiencing the silence of Sarnath, wandering amidst by-lanes of Mc Leod Ganj, and historic Buddhist monasteries adorned with rich and vivid ‘Thangkas’, a sip of salted tea and home baked bread, with soul stirring chanting and reverberating drum beats…..such is the journey that culminated in the ‘Holy Script’,” said Jain on Facebook.

Payal Jain launched her eponymous brand in 1993 and retails from her dedicated e-commerce store. The brand is known for its use of draping and mix of fashion and art.
