It has been revealed as part of a court case at the Delhi High Court that Patanjali had a total revenue of around 9,000 crore rupees (approximately 1.3 billion US dollars) for the FY 2017.

It was also revealed that the Ayurvedic health and wellness brand spend around 570 crore rupees (approximately 85.6 million dollars) on advertising during the same time period.

This is a hefty sum and when asked about the brand’s future advertising plans, Spokesperson SK Tijarawala said: “We are keeping the same pace on advertising.”

The ongoing court case is between Baba Ramdev and his former partner Swami (Baba) Karamveer who set up the Ayurvedic brand Kalpamrit Ayurved Private Limited in 2016 under the parent company Maharishi Patanjali Parivar.

Ramdev has accused Karamveer of intellectual property and copyright infringement and has stated that the Kalpamrit logo is too similar to Patanjali’s logo and that the products are “deceptively similar” to Patanjali’s inventory. Ramdev has asked for the cancellation of the brand’s trademark applications and the next hearing is scheduled for May 7.

An interim ruling in the hearing stated: “The annual revenue generated by the plaintiff from the sale of its products under the mark Patanjali in the financial year 2016-17 was Rs 9,000 crore approximately and the expenditure on advertising and promotion incurred by the plaintiff was Rs 570 crore approximately.”
