Paris haute couture: sheer 70s sensuality at Atelier Versace

Donatella Versace remained true to form on Sunday evening as she presented her fourth Haute Couture collection since the Italian luxury brand's Paris comeback in 2012.

Show-stopping, longer-length silhouettes featuring a kaleiodoscope of swirling 70s necklines, collars and inserts in various mesh fabrics paired with precision tailoring resulted in a collection that was surprisingly forward-looking.

In this predominantly eveningwear-focused collection, asymmetrical curves and curl cut-out details were elaborate and perfectly formed, enhancing the female form to great dramatic effect in the sumptuous salons of Paris's Chambre de commerce et d'Industrie.

For Spring, the designer swathed her model army, which included Karlie Kloss, Amber Heard and Jourdan Dunn, in sensual silk, lace and embroidery in bold "block color" hues: ebony, cobalt blue, scarlet and white.

Floor-length sheer dresses provided examples of the craftmanship of Atelier Versace, much-loved by celebrities and front-row guests such as British singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding, American actress Michelle Rodriguez and mother-daughter duo Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson.

Versace's trademark figure-hugging jumpsuits for the body beautiful, featuring "bell bottom" flares, added powerful presence while little tops worn with sensuous skirts offered fresh glamour for the day.
