A group of 24 cotton scientists in Pakistan is visiting seed outlets of private firms and over 600 fields to examine the performance of different crop varieties and inspect seed quality and availability, according to cotton commissioner Khalid Abdullah.

They were part of a two-week ‘travelling cotton’ seminar to assess the challenges being faced by farmers.

The seminar started on September 11 from Dera Ismail Khan and has visited Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Multan, Vehari and Rahimyar Khan in Punjab province and Ghotki, Tando Jam, Mirpur Khas and Sakrand regions of Sindh province, Abdullah told a Pakistani news agency.

It would culminate on September 24 at Karachi after a visit to the Lesbala cotton producing district of Balochistan. The group will then submit a report to the ministry of textile industry suggesting measures to enhance cotton production.
