PETA names Sonam K Ahuja Person of the Year for vegan handbag brand Rheson

The Bollywood actress and entrepreneur Sonam K Ahuja (née Sonam Kapoor) has been named as PETA’s Person of the Year 2018 for her promotion of cruelty free fashion through her brand Rheson.

Rheson, which Sonam K Ahuja launched with her sister Rhea Kapoor and is an amalgamation of their names, follows Ahuja’s cruelty-free principles. The brand’s handbag line only uses vegan, cruelty free leather and Ahuja was previously presented with a PETA Compassionate Business Award for it in 2017.

"Whether she's enjoying vibrant vegan meals or rallying her fans to do their part to stop animal suffering, Sonam Kapoor never hesitates to help animals any way she can," said PETA India Associate Director Sachin Bangera said in a statement. "We encourage everyone to take a page out of her book and live with compassion and respect for all beings."

The brand, which also retails apparel and other accessories, has just launched its Galactica collection for the feative season. The collection features pastel hued prints with cartoon stars and planets on floaty skirts and bomber jackets.

The brand has also been expanding its athleisure offerings as India’s athleisure and sportswear market continues to boom. The brand recently released a collection named “Relaxistan” featuring slogan hoodies and track pants with fun slogans like “Paneer completes me”, “Momo problems”, and “Bollywood”. Rheson retails online in partnership with Amazon India and Shoppers Stop which both stock its entire collection.
