P&G Hygiene and Health Care Q1 profit down 5 percent to Rs 137 crore

Procter & Gamble Hygiene and Health Care reported a five percent decline in profit at Rs 137 crore ($19.4 million) for the first quarter ended September 30 as against a profit of Rs 144 crore in the year-ago period.

The company, which follows July-June financial year, reported a seven percent growth in its revenue to Rs 852 crore as compared to Rs 792 crore it posted during the same period in the last financial year.
 
"In a challenging macro-economic environment our focus on raising the bar on superiority, improving productivity, and strengthening the organization culture has enabled us to deliver sustained growth during the first quarter,” managing director Madhusudan Gopalan said in a statement.

"We will continue to remain focused on these strategies in line with our aim to drive balanced sales and profit growth. In a challenging market environment, the feminine care business registered strong double-digit growth in the quarter, while the health care business grew ahead of the market,” Gopalan added.
 
P&G runs three business entities in India. Gillette India Ltd and Procter and Gamble Hygiene and Health Care Ltd are listed firms while Procter and Gamble Home Products Pvt Ltd is a 100% subsidiary of the parent company.
