The summit was organised by the Global Organic Textile Standard and the C&A Foundation and took place on December 5 in Nagpur. As part of the summit, a fashion show titled “Fashion Forward- Sustainability and our Future” aimed to “spotlight champions in the Indian fashion industry and their organic cotton initiatives,” events partner Lakme Fashion Week wrote on Facebook.

The Fashion Forward runway show featured designers that use organic cotton in innovative and dynamic ways. Fusion wear brand 11.11/eleven eleven presented a collection of men’s and women’s separates with loose, casual tailoring and simple yet striking details. With a colour palette of neutrals and indigo, the collection showed how wearable organic fashion can be.

Ethicus showcased a range of organic cotton sarees in bright hues and featuring multi-coloured checks showing that, in terms of colour, organic does not have to mean neutral. The brand’s founder Mani Chinnaswamy spoke about the brand’s farm to fashion production practices. Ethicus manufactures its garments in Pollachi, Tamil Nadu, and aims to forge a link between the environment, the farmer, the cotton spinners, the designer, and the weaver, Chinnaswamy said.

Upasana Auroville also presented a collection on the runway featuring block printed cotton and ikat weaves. The brand’s founder Uma Prajapati also took to the stage to express her views on organic cotton and made a strong case for sustainable fashion.
