Onitsuka Tiger launches children’s footwear for the first time in India, opens second Delhi NCR store

The Japanese sportswear brand Onitsuka Tiger launched children’s footwear line in India for the first time at the recent opening of its second flagship store in Delhi NCR. The store is the brand’s fifth flagship in India so far and located at Gurugram’s Ambience Mall. 

Onitsuka Tiger, founded by Kihachiro Onitsuka in 1949 in Japan, continues to expand in India with its latest store and product line launch. The brand launched its children’s shoe line, entitled “Kids Collection,” at the launch of its new 102-square-metre flagship store in Gurugram’s Ambience Mall. The Kids Collection line features a range of sports and athleisure footwear such as a children’s version of the brand’s classic Mexico 66 PS shoe.

The new Gurugram store also includes the brand’s vegan collection; exclusive Nippon Made Collection; OK Basketball collection and Hsinti collection. The store has a strong focus on sneakers but also has dedicated sections for men’s and women’s sports and athleisure clothing. 

The Mexico 66 SD collection also launched in India along with the store launch. The collection is inspired by Zen gardens and is an updated take on the Mexico 66 footwear designs. 

The store’s interior is designed in a clean, modern fashion to display its products and reflect its Japanese roots. The traditional Japanese building material Sumi mortar has been used throughout the store and the material has the texture of wood as well as tiger-esque stripes. The mortar was created using Asagi Tsuchi, a special type of Japanese soil, and Sumi (ink) paint.
