ONDC partners with Delhivery and eSamudaay to boost rural businesses

The government’s Open Network for Digital Commerce has partnered with logistics business Delhivery and software solution provider eSamudaay. The partnership is designed to facilitate the onboarding of small businesses across India. 

Bengaluru-based business eSamudaay has launched a platform named ‘TyohaarForever’ which is a curated selection of local products from across India, ET Bureau reported. The partnership will enable eSamudaay to leverage Delhivery’s distribution network to deliver to shoppers across 18,400 pin codes. The platform has just enabled the first batch of cross-country orders for Himalayan honey products by the brand Tenacious Bee Collective and will expand its services to cover a wide range of industries. 
 
“ONDC with its agenda of democratising digital commerce, aims to bring the smallest of sellers onto the network and provides them with a level playing field,” said ONDC’s managing director and CEO T Koshy, ET Retail reported. “I’m delighted to see two network participants, Delhivery and eSamudaay enable ‘Tenacious Bee Collective’, a small company from Kangra, Himachal Pradesh on-board onto ONDC to take its products to customers across India.”

The partnership should enable rural businesses to scale their operations to begin serving customers across the country, according to ONDC. The initiative is part of the government’s ‘Make in India’ programme, designed to boost domestic production to increase employment opportunities and decrease the country’s trade deficit. 
 
“With Delhivery’s technology-enabled, fully-integrated logistics solutions, entrepreneurs and businesses from the remotest villages and settlements can serve customers across the country,” said Delhivery’s chief operating officer Ajith Pai, ET Retail reported. “India has huge demand from different tiers of [the] economy, and ONDC will truly unlock the growth potential of digital commerce in India.”
