The government-backed Open Network for Digital Commerce has entered the business-to-business e-commerce market. Sellers on the platform are now able to engage in wholesale trade and ONDC has reported 160 B2B transactions, enabled through startups Rapidor and SignCatch, since entering Alpha mode.

“We’re taking the next big step with B2B in ONDC,” said ONDC’s CEO T Koshy, ET Retail reported. “B2B has its own nuances as the buyers, their priorities, and their logistics are all different. There is a purely contractual relationship between the buyer and seller.”

By using ONDC for B2B transactions, businesses will have greater access to transparency and will be able to shop around for the best deal. The platform is also confident it will increase traceability, efficiency, and discoverability across the supply chain.

According to ONDC, two of the main issues India’s B2B market currently faces are a lack of standardisation and quality assurance issues. The platform is confident its democratic approach to online B2B trade will help to solve these issues and also help with access to credit, the Economic Times reported.

To support the expansion of its new B2B segment, ONDC has set up a working group to standardise credit and insurance protocols. The platform is continuing to expand its operations and recorded an average peak order count of 25,000 per month in May.
