Nykaa to expand luxe portfolio with Smashbox cosmetics

India’s largest omnichannel multi-brand beauty platform Nykaa is expanding its portfolio especially in the luxury beauty segment and will soon house LA-based makeup brand Smashbox Cosmetics, said a top company official.

Nykaa, a leading player in the beauty and cosmetics market was one of the first to offer global beauty brands such as M.A.C, Clinique, Estée Lauder and Bobbi Brown.
 
"In the last six months we have seen an overwhelming response to luxury beauty sales, growing to account for 15% of our revenue and we will keep expanding our portfolio starting with Smashbox cosmetics,” Falguni Nayar, founder & CEO, Nykaa.com was quoted as saying  by the Economic Times.

E-commerce firms like Nykaa are rapidly expanding their portfolios to gain an upper hand in the country’s rapidly growing beauty and cosmetics industry. The retail beauty and cosmetics market in India is currently estimated at $950 million and expected to touch $2.68 billion by the year 2020.
 
As per a report released by Assocham, an apex trade association, the estimated luxury beauty products market in India has been growing by an average of 28 per cent over the last three years so it is no surprise companies like Nykaa are scaling up this segment.
 
Nykaa has also set up brick and mortar stores with ‘Luxe’ exclusively housing luxury beauty brands which contributed 15% to the company’s total revenue last financial year. Nykaa Luxe currently has five stores in Mumbai, Bengaluru and New Delhi with plans to add 25 more by 2020. The beauty firm is expecting the luxury segment to contribute 20% to total revenue in this financial year.
 
Nykaa.com reported a net revenue of Rs 214 crore and gross merchandise value (GMV) of Rs 275 crore for the financial year 2016-17.  It also increased its brand portfolio by 56% to stock more than 700 brands with more than 80,000 products.
