Nayar was awarded with a crowd of global retail leaders at the Barcelona event, FSN E-Commerce Ventures Limited (Nykaa) announced in a press release on May 11. Nayar was given the award for her business leadership and contribution to the Indian beauty industry.

“We are at the cusp of what I believe will be India’s decade for retail,” said Nayar in a press release. “Powered by a young population that is coming of age and being integrated into the global ecosystem, some of the most robust tech platforms and higher consumption spend coming out of India, we’re witnessing a pivotal shift in global dynamics. As we continue to embrace digital transformation, invest in infrastructure, and unleash the entrepreneurial spirit of our people, the country is well poised to redefine the retail sector globally and set new benchmarks for innovation, customer-centricity, and inclusive growth.”

Marta Alvarez Guil and Cristina Alvarez Guil launched the Isidoro Alvarez Lifetime Achievement Medal in 2018 in honour of their father Isidoro Alvarez, who founded retail giant El Corte Ingles. Previous recipients of the award include Paul Kelly, CEO of Selfridges and Suzanne Santos, co-founder of Aesop. The World Retail Congress has run since 2007 and functions as a platform for in-depth research, content, and events designed to boost retail growth.
