Nitin Bal Chauhan presents “White Chapel” at LMIFW

Nitin Bal Chauhan presented a collection titled “White Chapel” that was inspired by Jack the Ripper and the graphic novel “In Hell” at Lotus Makeup India Fashion Week.

“The fog is rising; London is dipped in hues of black, white and red; Dr. Gull is preparing his surgical suitcase; putting things in order; it has to be done tonight are the orders oh his highness,” wrote Chauhan on his social media to set the scene for his autumn/ winter collection.

On day two of LMIFW, March 14, Nitin Bal Chauhan presented a monochrome collection for his western wear line that was dark yet romantic. Silhouettes were comfortable with long, loose dresses, wide-leg pants, skirts, and loose jackets but details such as sheer textiles, large fabric roses, and eerie prints added drama.

Models had red finger wave curls added to slicked back buns and black jewelled crowns also made their way down the runway. Skirts added volume and fitted tops balanced this out and the collection’s historical referenced were kept modern with hoop earrings and chunky shoes.

Chauhan had a strong narrative for “White Chapel” and wrote: “Jack the Ripper, a fictional character from a graphic novel is a perfect representation of the proverb “MIGHT IS RIGHT”; They say fiction also finds inspiration from real events! Jack the Ripper is an exceptional surgeon working for the Queen and murders people on her orders because they know things about the system they are not suppose to know.”

LMIFW began on March 13 and concluded on March 16 in New Delhi. The runway shows took place at the Jawaharlal Stadium and the event was organised by the Fashion Design Council of India.
