Designer Nitin Bal Chauhan presented a dynamic and dark collection, with a thought provoking video titled ‘Naevus’ on day one of Lotus Makeup India Fashion Week’s first digital edition.

The menswear and womenswear collection was inspired by the Jallian Wala Bagh Massacre and mixed Victorian-style pomposity with modern, gothic subversion.

Exaggerated collars and cuffs in white contrasted with metal hardware mouth gags and abstract, brutal makeup and face paint. Models twirled around to show the garments' 360 degree detailing and express the horrors of the massacre.

Notable garments included a dress made of metal rings, Regency-style red tailored jackets, and pastel pink suits. Despite the drama of the collection, it contained a large number of wearable items including jackets and printed suits.

Garments were painted with haunting illustrations and Chauhan’s signature 3D embroidery. Chauhan created a series of illustrations for the collection himself in charcoal with abstract, yet expressive shading.

Nitin Bal Chauhan retails his eponymous brand in multi-brand stores in Delhi, Tokyo, London, and Dubai, according to his Instagram. The designer was originally planning to showcase Naevus in March at LMIFW, but the show was postponed due to coronavirus.
