On April 2, the exhibition ‘India in Fashion: The Impact of Indian Dress and Textiles on the Fashionable Imagination’ opened at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre in Mumbai, the venue announced on Facebook. PhilanthropistNita Ambani led the accompanying book launch along with her daughter Isha and fashion personalities from India and beyond attended.

“When my mother and I along with Hamish were conceptualising this exhibition, we were clear in our vision that it had to encompass and showcase the wide-reaching influence of Indian fashion,” said Isha Ambani at the event, Firstpost reported. “It had to be an exhibition that touched upon the historical influence of India.”

The exhibition features over 140 looks which tell the story of India’s impact on global fashion between the 18th and 20th centuries. A mix of Indian and international brands’ designs are on display including Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, Anamika Khanna, Anita Dongre, Anuradha Vakil and Elsa Schiaparelli, Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel, Jean-Philippe Worth, and Mainbocher. The accompanying book delves into these designs and provides further historical context.
