The new car was launched by the Indian arm of the Japanese car manufacturer on Tuesday September 12 in time for the holiday season and was given the tag line “runs on fashion”. The car itself is the already popular Nissan Micra and no changes have been made to the engine and internal workings of the car but the outer body and some internal aesthetic features have been altered as part of the collaboration with United Colors of Benetton. One example of this is a flash of bright orange added to the wheels, reminiscent of United Colors of Benetton’s famous colour blocking.

The Nissan Micra went on sale in India as well as in European markets last year and has proved to be a successful model both in India and on the export market. Therefore, it is not surprising that the Micro model was chosen to get a makeover from the Italian fashion brand. Last financial year, Nissan sold a total of 80,038 units in India and exported 70,665 units.

United Colors of Benetton was launched in 1965 in Italy. The brand’s advertising focuses heavily on the label’s commitment to social issues and 2015 saw the launch of the Benetton Women Empowerment Program, a project that aims to support women’s rights worldwide.
