Modi, who was accused of defrauding the Punjab National Bank, continues to fight extradition charges from jail in the UK. He continues to seek bail, the Press Trust of India reported. He will report for his latest remand hearing on Wednesday. He recently had his latest bail request denied despite offering new, strict house arrest conditions and doubling the bail bond to £4 million.

Modi has reported being attacked in Wandsworth Prison several times and was most recently attacked in prison by two inmates who kicked and punched him in what was believed to be an extortion attempt.

“It is obvious that it was a targeted attack following renewed media coverage recently in which Mr Modi is wrongly referred to as a billionaire diamantaire,” said Modi’s barrister Hugo Keith, the Press Trust of India reported.

Modi’s doctors report was also recently leaked which described Modi’s current mental health state as 'fragile'. Keith argued that Indian intelligence agencies were involved in the information leak, which they have denied.

Modi’s extradition trial is scheduled for May 11 to 15, 2020. Modi is accused along with his Uncle Mehul Choksi and several others of defrauding the Punjab National Bank in one of India’s largest ever reported fraud cases. Both Modi and Choksi have stated that they are innocent. Choksi is believed to be residing in Antigua, where he has taken citizenship.
