Designer Niketa Thacker has partnered with artisans across Gujarat to promote their work and support lockdown recovery with her brand Sivi’s new womenswear collection ‘Panjo Kutch’.

Thacker designed the collection specifically to help artisans recover from struggles caused by recent lockdowns, which put a great economic strain on the state’s weaving and handicraft community, she wrote on her brand Sivi’s Facebook page. Thacker also gave artisans creative freedom with the womenswear designs and encouraged them to express themselves through the collection.

Panjo Kutch has a rich colour palette of navy blue, deep red, burnt orange, magenta, and black and features traditional decorative motifs. Subtle mirror work gives a nod to Gujarat’s love of mirror-embellished garments and full skirts also bring to mind the state’s traditional dress.

All of the textiles used in Sivi’s latest collection have been sourced from the Gujarat region from local artisans. The collection launched at the brand’s flagship store in Ahmedabad and several of the artisans who worked on the collection now work for the boutique, Thacker told the National Herald.

Thacker is originally from Kutch in Gujarat and pursued a career as a criminal lawyer, before becoming a fashion designer.
