Nike e-commerce site glitch allowed shoppers in India to order items for free

Sportswear retailer Nike experienced a glitch on its India e-commerce store that allowed shoppers to order items from the site free-of-charge. The business has not filed a complaint but is attempting to cancel undelivered orders.

For close to the past two months, shoppers in the know of a glitch on Nike’s e-commerce store were able to order lakhs of products online for free, to the extent that it caught the attention of the Delhi Police’s Cyber Crime Branch, the Times of India reported. 
 
“We emailed Nike two days back and we asked them to file a complaint, but the company refused,” the Delhi Police’s deputy police commissioner for the Cyber Crime Branch, Bhisham Singh, told the Times of India.

“We got the information due to a breach in a private discussion forum on the dark web that Nike products were being sold on dark web at very cheap rates,” cyber security expert, Sunny Nehra, told the Times of India.

“While analysing the website of the brand, we found out that it was suffering from an improper implementation of payment gateway. And the attackers took advantage of the technical glitch and managed to place orders free of cost.”
 
Nike has now resolved the e-commerce issue. Although it has not filed a complaint, the brand is attempting to cancel orders made through the glitch that have not yet been delivered.
