New brand Aseem Kapoor releases first collection 'Sleti' at Ensemble
Aseem Kapoor’s first womenswear collection titled ‘Sleti’ launched at Ensemble’s boutiques in DLF Emporio, New Delhi and Kala Ghoda, Mumbai, on October 8. The line has also debuted on Ensemble’s e-commerce store, the new brand announced on Facebook.
The collection launched with an art installation in both Ensemble stores, designed to enable shoppers to fully experience Sleti’s aesthetics and ethos.
“We launched our line across ensemble Delhi and Mumbai with a tape art installation, connecting it beautifully with the contemporary layering and the memories of childhood that Sleti brings back,” Kapoor announced on Facebook.
“The tape art is visually pleasing to the eye, conveying complexities such as movement and space by something so simple as the placement of a line.”
The collection features a mix of traditional wear staples such as shawls, sarees, lehengas, and blouses and fusion wear designs, including loose jumpsuits, blazers, a corset top with sheer cape, and draped dresses. A wide range of techniques including pleating, kantha running stitch, embroidery, dip dye, and Rajasthani dabu-inspired prints create a luxurious, folk aesthetic. The colour palette includes deep reds and blues, neutral tones, and pops of mustard yellow.
Kapoor worked as head of design at Tarun Tahiliani, where he oversaw the traditional wear brand’s men’s and womenswear collections for around 15 years. The National Institute of Fashion Technology graduate has made a subtle, yet strong impression with his brand’s first collection, which is both poetic and wearable.
