India-born, New York-based designer Ikshit Pande’s new womenswear brand Quod has launched its first ever collection for fall/ winter 2019 in India in the multi-brand luxury outlet Ogaan.

Quod launched its maiden collection at Ogaan’s Kala Ghoda store earlier in the month along with two other debutant labels, Amita Gupta and Chillosophy. The brand’s quirky, monochrome ensembles stood out amongst heavily embellished traditional wear.

Quod has divided its first collection into two, a monochromatic “New York” collection and brightly coloured “Delhi” collection which epitomise the aesthetics of the two cities. The New York influence can be seen in crisp white shirts and tailored shorts and the Delhi influence in Pande’s modern take on traditional wear silhouettes. The collection made its runway debut at New York Fashion Week.

Full, tulle skirts and tongue-in-cheek slogan tees mix the modern athleisure aesthetic with the drama of couture. 3D polka dots and oversized proportions add a youthful feel but the minimalist styling keeps the collection refined.

The collection was inspired by birds and their wings, Pande told Elle India, and diaphanous tulle sleeves indeed resemble a bird in flight. “Borrowing from the past, but staying deftly relevant today, Quod is about playing with the essence of things, finding new meanings and transforming them,” Pande said.

Quod is short for “quod erat demonstrandum” (“thus it has been demonstrated” in Latin). The brand also retails from multi-brand boutique Flying Solo in New York as well as its dedicated e-commerce store.
