The trade show launched at Kathmandu’s Hotel Yak and Yeti on January 13 and runs until January 15 in partnership with consulting firm Aecc Consultants, the NEGJA announced on Facebook. Ahead of the event’s launch, on the evening of January 12, Bollywood celebrity Malaika Arora traveled from India to Nepal to model a selection of traditional and contemporary Nepalese jewellery on the runway at the ‘Fashion Runway’ portion of the event.

Arora wore a large Tilhari gold pendant on a thick string of green potay (beads), slung over the shoulder in traditional style. The jewellery, worn by married women, is one of the most distinctive styles of Nepalese jewellery. The fashion show was broadcast live on Kantipur and Kantipur Cineplex television services.

The trade show is sponsored by Nude Superior Vodka with mobility partner Arete International Private Limited. With free entry for both industry professionals and shoppers, the trade show is designed to give Nepalese jewellery brands a platform from which to promote their latest designs and link up with retailers and wholesales from a wide range of locations.

The event is also open for business-to-customer commerce and will feature an array of wedding themed jewellery options. “You'll have the opportunity to meet jewellers, and stylists who will share their knowledge and insights on the latest trends and techniques,” wrote the NEGJA on Facebook.
