The womenswear collection mixed a sweet, pastel colour palette with masculine silhouettes as graffiti-inspired prints and slogans adorned jackets and combat trousers. Sportswear, '80s tailoring, and traditional wear-inspired details created an eclectic collection full of contrasts.

With this collection, Kumar, who first launched his eponymous brand in 2000, sought to explore the current discourse in the fashion industry and posted key words on garments intended to start a dialogue. While some models wore jackets emblazoned with such as “strength” and had “love” painted across their mouths, others bore words such as “racism” to illustrate Kumar’s thoughts on the fashion industry today.

This month, Kumar also released a collaborative collection with Alcis. The collection, named “Alcis x Nari” features sportswear-inspired clothing made entirely from plastic bottles and launched online on Amazon on Independence Day. Garments include leggings, tops, and shorts and  the collaboration not only pioneers textiles created from recycled PET bottles, it also promotes sustainability in the athleisure segment of the market.

Lakme Fashion Week ran from August 21 to 25 at the St Regis in Mumbai. The fashion week was sponsored by Lakme, IMG Reliance, and Nexa and celebrated its 20th birthday with its winter/ festive edition.
