Jul 25, 2018
On Friday July 27, students from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) will showcase their designs on the runway at the Vastra Vinyas fashion show at the Campion School Auditorium.
The show will feature 24 designers and around 100 designs created by Fashion Designing and Clothing Technology (FDCT) students of NIFT Bhopal. The fashion show will focus on weaving techniques, both traditional and modern, inspired by the cultural heritage of Madhya Pradesh. This will include techniques such as Chanderi, Maheshwari, and Bagh print among others.
NIFT faculty member Sapna Singh Parmar said that the fashion show will take traditional techniques and update them inspired by global trends. The show will be divided into four “rounds”, each with their own theme. The four themes are: Navriti, Vastrakriti, Alankrita, and Suramya.
NIFT Bhopal was set up by the Government of India’s Ministry of Textiles and started functioning in June 2008. NIFT itself was set up in 1986 and its other 15 campuses are located in New Delhi, Bengaluru, Bhubaneshwar, Chennai, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Jodhpur, Kangra, Kannur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Patna, Raebareli, Shillong, and Srinagar. In 2017, NIFT was ranked as 19th in CEOWorld Magazine’s list of best fashion schools in the world.
