N Chandrasekaran steps into role as Tata Digital chairman

Executive chairman of Tata Sons N Chandrasekaran has been officially appointed as chairman of Tata Digital.

Chandrasekaran’s new title as Tata Digital chairman will see him tasked with continuing to evolve the traditional Indian conglomerate into a major player in India’s swiftly growing, e-commerce-led economy. N Chandrasekaran was reappointed as Tata Sons chairman for another five years in February this year and it was he who played a key role in developing Tata Digital, according to the business, ET Tech reported. 
 
“Chandrasekaran helming the entity is also a kind of additional reassurance for external investors about the kind of attention and focus that the digital initiative will get in the Tata system,” an anonymous official close to the development told the Economic Times. 

Following the recent launch of its ‘super app’ Tata Neu which offers everything from shopping to bill management and insurance, Tata Digital plans to secure funds from its holding company Tata Sons to facilitate continued growth. 
 
The business also plans to continue to expand the services and products available on Tata Neu. The app launched with including Westside Tata Cliq, BigBasket, and Westside among others and plans to add jewellery businesses Titan and Tanishq to the app in the near future.
