Flipkart’s fashion arm Myntra has equipped two of its largest fulfilment centres with solar roof panels, and aims to deliver over half of orders during its upcoming End of Reason Sale, through these sustainable FCs.
Myntra has installed 3,800 solar panels on the roofs of its FCs in Bhiwandi, near Mumbai and Bilaspur, near Gurgaon, spanning 58,000 square feet, the business announced in a press release. The solar panels are expected to generate electricity to meet 35% of the operational demand.
“This development marks an important milestone in our journey on the path towards sustainability where we look at creating a positive impact on the environment and driving efficiency for the business,” said Myntra’s CEO, Amar Nagaram, in a press release.
“We are immensely proud of our efforts in the sustainability space. This is only a prelude to our efforts for being self-sufficient as, in the next leg of this initiative, we are going to increase our capacity for renewable energy generation.”
The new solar rooftops will enable Myntra to lower its annual carbon footprint by 1,825 metric tonnes, equivalent to reducing the emission impact of 400 cars on the road every year, according to the business. The installation is part of Myntra’s wider reaching plan to increase its sustainable business practices.
Myntra’s upcoming End of Reason Sale is one of its largest-scale sale events of the year and this edition will be its 13th to date. The new solar panels will now enable the business to conduct its sale with a lower carbon footprint.
