Kolkata-based multi-brand luxury Indian womenswear boutique 85 Lansdowne has launched an e-commerce site, in response to changing consumer habits during lockdown and has increased its in-store services.

85 Lansdowne’s new e-commerce store’s launch was the boutique’s response to the pan-India lockdown - 85 Lansdowne- Facebook

85 Lansdowne’s new e-commerce store launched during lockdown to enable Kolkata’s luxury shoppers continued access to designer collections, the boutique announced on Facebook. The site has also launched a 75%-off sale to encourage shopping despite the economic downturn.

“Consumer sentiment is varied,” Shalini Nopany of 85 Lansdowne told Vogue India, about post-lockdown business in-store and online.

“People want to buy, but they’re also looking for deals because times are tough. We’re sending lookbooks to long-standing clients, and even garments to try in the safety of their homes. Stores have to up the level of services they’re offering.”

Along with having an increased customer-centric focus, the boutique and online store have launched an array of new collections and products this month. New launches include womenswear designs by Payal Khandwala, Devina Juneja, Cue, Linen Bloom, and By Kaveri, as well as accessories by The Yarn Story and footwear by Paio Shoes, 85 Lansdowne announced on Facebook.

Launched in 2006 in a 75-year-old Bengali mansion, 85 Lansdowne is an established centre of luxury fashion in the area. Long-standing boutiques like this, with their established customer base, could prove helpful to newer brands still finding their footing and struggling with the effects of lockdown, according to Nopany.

“Designers can stick to designing, and we’re here to look at the retail side of it,” she said.
