Thimphu, Bhutan, will play host to a festival of culture, arts, and literature that will see Indian fashion take centre stage.

From the 25th to the 27th August, the eighth edition of the Mountain Echoes festival will take place and this year there is a strong focus on fashion. The festival is presented by the Jaypee Group and is an initiative of the India-Bhutan Foundation. The event will be produced by Siyahi and powered by the Government of Rajasthan.

Along with art and literature, the festival aims to showcase the textile heritage of both India and Bhutan and, by facilitating designers from both countries to curate collections that include their respective country’s textile heritage, the event aims to celebrate the common threads that link the two cultures.

The designer duo Abraham and Thakore (David Abraham and Rakesh Thakore) from India will hold an exhibition of their designs which will centre around modern uses of khadi textiles. From Bhutan, designers Chimmi Choden of Chimmi House of Design and Chandrika Tamang will present their designs in a fashion show.

The India-Bhutan Foundation was established in August 2003 and the respective ambassadors of India and Bhutan are the Co-Chairpersons of the foundation. The main corpus fund of the India-Bhutan Foundation is ten crores, half contributed by the Government of India and half by the Government of Bhutan. The interest generated by this fund is used for financing proposals, including those for cultural programmes relating to Indian and Bhutanese fashion.
