Monisha Jaising to present "the Opera" tomorrow at ICW
Monisha Jaising takes opera as her inspiration for her runway show tomorrow at India Couture Week (ICW) and will mix both traditional Indian and imported textiles.
Jaising’s runway show will take place tomorrow at Taj Palace at eight in the evening and her show will be followed by Varun Bahl’s presentation. Jaising has already shared some of her upcoming collection on her Facebook page with images from a recent photoshoot with makeup and hair by Fat Mu. A gown from Jaising’s collection has also already made its debut on the red carpet worn by Shilpa Shetty when she attended the IFFAs.
Jaising said she wanted to show all aspects of her show’s inspiration, the opera, and so, “incorporated the signature red curtains, the ceiling area surrounded with exquisite chandeliers, the candelabras, and the baroque-style decorative elements. The collection introduces a theatrical variation of fabrics composed of lamé, velvet metallics, tulle, chikankari, Italian organza, Banarasi, and metallic satin.” In her latest collection she will be using both traditional Indian and imported textiles to create her classic look of high octane glamour with Indian roots.
Monisha Jaising studied at the American College of Applied arts followed by the Royal College of Arts and subsequently started designing professionally in 1989. Jaising’s label incorporates sportswear, kids wear (MJ Kids), evening wear, and bridal couture among other styles and she opened her own e-commerce site in 2015.
