The SEEPZ-SEZ development commissioner Shyam Jagannathan and joint development commissioner CPS Chauhan briefed Goyal on the current status of the construction initiatives, the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council reported on its website. As per the briefing, a total of Rs 82.31 crore has been approved to develop the Mega CFC and it should be operational by May 1, 2023.

The Mega CFC is designed to increase efficiency among the jewellery processing units in the area, including small and medium sized businesses. By making expensive jewellery making technology and equipment available for small businesses to use without investing in it themselves, the overall quality and output will improve, according to the GJEPC.

A number of sustainable initiatives are also being undertaken at the site as part of the SEEPZ-SEZ Version 2.0 Rebooted plan, the GJEPC reported. These include reducing the site’s carbon footprint and using more renewable energy sources including solar power. The plan is to achieve close to zero waste through an integrated waste management system which will feature rain water harvesting and grey water recycling among other practices.
