Minister Piyush Goyal pledges to support lab grown diamond industry growth in Surat

Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal announced the government’s plans to develop the lab grown diamond industry at an event hosted by the Surat Jewellery Manufacturers’ Association in diamond manufacturing hub Surat.

The Surat event took place on November 21 and was supported by the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council, the GJEPC reported on its website. Goyal addressed Surat’s diamond industry and announced that the government is aggressively working towards developing the lab grown diamond industry in Surat in terms of both growing the lab grown diamonds and manufacturing them. 
 
Goyal asked diamond industry leaders in Surat to prepare a vision document for the lab grown diamond industry. The Minister told stakeholders he would share this report with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discuss ways to further aid the sector. 

“I am in continuous touch with GJEPC and hold a meeting every fortnight to understand the situation of the industry,” said Goyal, the GJEPC reported. Goyal highlighted the role played by the GJEPC in communicating issues in the gem and jewellery industry to the Ministry of Commerce at the Surat event. 
 
The event was also attended by Minister of State for Railways and Textiles Darshana Jardosh, GJEPC vice president Kirit Bhansali, and GJEPC regional chairman for Gujarat Vijaybhai Mangukiya.
