Gadkari asked MSMEs to register on the National Stock Exchange at the 114th Annual Session of PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, ET Online reported. The Union Minister told the audience that doing so would give MSMEs easy access to capital to help them grow, which will in turn help to grow the country’s economy. Gadkari has repeatedly said that MSMEs are vital to the government’s plan to make India a $5 trillion economy.

As well as asking MSMEs to register, Gadkari also stated that the sector currently contributes 29% of India’s total GDP. Citing a number of government initiatives including its “Waste to Wealth” campaign, Gadkari urged MSMEs to take advantage of government schemes. Gadkari also said that the Union Government aims to make the capital pollution free in two years.

As part of his work to uplift the MSME sector, Gadkari is also currently working on updating Khadi textiles to create designs using the weave that will be easily marketable abroad.

Aiming to greatly increase Khadi exports, Gadkari plans to set up four National Design and Product Development Centres in north, south, east, and west India with the Khadi and Village Industries Commission.

The centres will help Khadi businesses to create more modern and attractive designs.
