“During the pandemic, we followed a more cautious path by opening stores in lower-tiered cities and maintaining our presence in India,” Miniso’s general manager of overseas operations Bella Tu told ET Retail in an interview. “One of the biggest challenges is to localise and cater to the needs of Indian customers.”

Miniso’s large size stores generally measure between 100 and 200 square metres and retail a wide range of product categories including fashion accessories, cosmetics, homeware, kitchen items, and electronics among others. The brand is keen to tap into the dense populations of Tier 1 cities and works with distributors across the country to run its retail network.

“We’ll continue to look for new partners to work with and accelerate the business growth of Miniso in India,” said Tu. “we are not only expanding our brick-and-mortar retail network, but [we] also have plans to cooperate with local e-commerce platforms.”

Miniso currently woeks with e-commerce giants Amazon and Flipkart in India for online distribution. By expanding its online presence in India, Miniso aims to reach new customers in areas where it does not have a physical presence.
