Metro Brands plans to hire up to 2,000 retail workers to work in its new stores. The footwear business plans to continue its fast paced brick-and-mortar expansion across India and is seeing sales rise thanks to increasing incomes.

“To support the extra stores, we would definitely need more back office staff (in addition to more store workers),” said Metro Brands’ CEO Nissan Joseph on February 22, ET Bureau reported. “We see middle-class incomes growing in India… and when incomes rise, what people want is better products, better brands.”

In March, 2022, Metro Brands announced that it plans to open 260 new brick-and-mortar stores for its various footwear brands including Metro, Mochi, and Walkaway. The brand plans to both expand into new areas and open additional stores in areas it already has a retail presence.

Metro Brands retails US brand Crocs footwear in India and runs 200 exclusive brand outlets for the label. Crocs has announced that it plans to further focus on its sandals product category, which bodes well for the Indian market as sandals are one of the most worn types of footwear.

“There’s still a considerable runway for Crocs to continue to grow," said Joseph. The Asia-Pacific region overtook the North American region in terms of revenue for Crocs in 2022 and the business expects this trend to continue.
