Metro Cash & Carry focuses on supply chain during extended lockdown

Fast moving consumer goods retailer Metro Cash & Carry India is confident it can continue to supply local kirana stores with essential goods and is focusing on its supply chain during lockdown.

“The lockdown has impacted the economy adversely and that is a fact, and like every sector this crisis will impact the company financially,” Metro Cash & Carry India’s CEO and managing director Arvind Mediratta told the Press Trust of India in an e-mail communication. “However, we are focusing all our efforts in serving the nation by ensuring kiranas who provide 90% of our daily essentials have access to all necessary products.”
 
“We are prioritising on maintaining a seamless supply chain system so that there is no shortage of food and grocery,” said Mediratta. “At this point of time, as a wholesaler, adequate supply of essentials coupled with safety and hygiene of customers and employees is of utmost importance for us.”

In order to maintain adequate supplies of essential goods, the business has increased its own brand production and ameliorated its supply chain. Metro Cash & Carry is also supplying a number of NGOs with goods, according to Mediratta.
 
Metro Cash & Carry India is currently sharing testimonials from kirana store owners it is supplying during lockdown on its Facebook page. The business has also shared its safety procedures designed to keep retailers healthy during the coronavirus pandemic.
