E-commerce business Meesho is in the process of developing an enterprise software solution for logistics to support small and medium sized businesses and reduce Meesho’s reliance on third-party logistics providers.

“Getting this product up and running is one of the key goals for the company this year,” an anonymous source told ET Tech about the development. “It will address a lot of inefficiencies that exist in the Tier 2 and Tier 3 supply chain in terms of e-commerce deliveries.”

This year, Meesho has run a number of cost-cutting initiatives as part of its “un-bundling” project as it works to reduce its cash-burn. By developing its own logistics software, the business could save money in the sector. The business currently relies on third party businesses including Xpressbees and Delhivery to carry out its logistics tasks.

“Currently, end-to-end logistics capabilities have been built by a few players in the industry and many small logistics businesses and individuals are not able to participate in the ecosystem,” said a Meesho spokesperson in a statement made to the Economic Times. “In line with our vision to make 100 million small businesses successful online, we are building a platform that will provide them the operational know-how, network design capabilities, access to tools, and technology to be a part of this network.”
