Meesho crosses 11 lakh sellers on its platform
E-commerce giant Meesho signed more than 600,000 small businesses to its platform last year to reach the milestone of 1 million sellers.
Meesho became the fastest e-commerce company in India to reach the mark as it achieved the feat within 8 years of its inception.
The company claims that 80 percent of these 1 million sellers have started selling online for the first time and 50 percent of these sellers come from tier 2, 3 cities and beyond.
Commenting on the achievement, Utkrishta Kumar, chief experience officer at Meesho in a statement said, “In line with the government’s vision of an ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’, Meesho has built a robust platform to help small businesses grow and succeed online. Driven by our industry-first initiatives such as zero commission, an increasing number of MSMEs have chosen to partner with us. Meesho doesn’t segregate sellers on the basis of tiers, nor does it have private labels or an inventory-led play.”
Manish Khandelwal, owner of apparel brand Sevanti and Meesho seller added, “In our first year, we recorded a turnover of Rs 50 lakh, and since then our business has grown almost 100x in the last 4 years. This growth has not only turned our fortunes but also immensely helped the people associated with us.”
Meesho headquartered in Bengaluru is a marketplace for small businesses, which includes micro small medium enterprises and individual entrepreneurs.
