Meesho believes that it has been subject to targeted tweets, designed to harm its reputation, centring around a number of tweets by different influencers which said negative things about the business and tagged its investors, ET Tech reported. According to Meesho, A Twitter user exposed a campaign which had been orchestrated against the business on June 2 by showing that the influencers who wrote the recent tweets against Meesho had been paid to do so.

“Following the expose, some influencers acknowledged that said tweets were paid promotions while others deleted their posts,” the business said in a statement, ET Bureau reported. Meesho asserted that the negative statements made in the tweets were “lies”.

Earlier in the year, a number of Twitter users came forward to say that they had been offered money in return for posting negative tweets about Meesho’s e-commerce business. Meesho’s executives believe that the people behind the alleged smear campaign are, “those with vested interests looking to defame the company,” the business said in a statement.
