Mayyur Girotra celebrates pride with New York fashion show

Designer Mayyur Girotra kickstarted New York Pride in the US by launching new collection ‘Aikya’ with a runway show. The event was designed to celebrate South Asia’s Queer community and showcased an array of bright, joyous designs. 

“Brace yourself for a historic moment as the dazzling and one-of-a-kind gender-fluid collection, Aikya, makes its spectacular debut,” announced the brand on Facebook on June 7. “Prepare to be captivated at the trendy Ave India Design in the heart of Soho, New York, where this event becomes a celebration of unity and leaves an everlasting joy for the South Asian Queer community.”
 
The vibrant showcase featured loose silhouettes, Indian inspired prints, and gender fluid tailoring. Models wore pearls by Aanaash India and notable designs included coats covered in mirror work hearts and prints which appeared as digital renderings of traditional motifs. 

“Aikya embodies Mayyur's visionary outlook on fashion, serving as a magnificent force that brings people together,” wrote the brand about the collection on Facebook. “It's a collection bursting with vibrancy and diversity, where playful motifs effortlessly blend with stylised Indic designs, creating a kaleidoscope of rainbow hues that immerses you in pure delight. Prepare to be enthralled by the opulent silhouettes and flawlessly tailored, embellished ensembles that take centre stage.”
