“At Marico, we are taking responsibility for our actions by announcing our vision to achieve net-zero emissions across our global operations by 2040,” said Marico’s managing director and CEO Saugata Gupta, the Press Trust of India reported.

“We will be integrating carbon-neutral strategies into our operations and take consistent steps to minimise our carbon footprint in the long run.”

The business aims to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions in both its offices and manufacturing plants and create products with these goals in mind. Gupta said that the climate crisis has created conditions which are ripe for climate-related natural disasters and that businesses need to adapt to do their part to mitigate this.

“To contain, mitigate, and reverse this threat, businesses must embrace their role as responsible corporate citizens and transition to a carbon-neutral framework, as swiftly as possible,” said Gupta.

Marico runs numerous personal care brands including Parachute, Hair & Care, Nihar Naturals, and Set Wet, among others. The business also has a strong presence in the packaged food sector through its brands including Saffola and Fittify, among others.
