LONDON, 9 (EUROPA PRESS) Finally, designers are starting to realise that people who wear plus sizes exist and want fashionable clothes as much as skinny consumers. Marc Jacobs, renowned designer, has decided to launch a new clothing line especially for plus size women.

Jacobs is willing to offer clothes for a European size 42 (UK 14, US 10), this is something that most designer labels do not offer. The designer believes that women with a larger body are entitled to have the same choice as thinner women.

"We are in negotiations at the moment, very recent discussions are in progress, for the introduction of plus sizes," Robert Duffy, president of the Marc Jacobs brand said on his Twitter, "I am a big guy. It is not easy for me to find clothes. Of course, I can order tailor-made clothes for me, but I know how the rest of the world feels. I try to diet but I hate the phrase 'plus size', any suggestions?"

If designer Marc and brand’s president Robert’s plans are successful, experts say they could capture a "huge untapped market." Also, Kark McKeever, founder of consultant company, Visual Thinking, explains that "this market cannot be ignored. It is growing every year and it would be crazy not to think about trying to enter it."

"The brands that first choose to penetrate this market will gain very positive publicity," explained Mckever, since "names like Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein would then be in a position to follow us and also produce plus sizes successfully, European brands could then follow suit. Having said this, others brands such as Gucci and Dolce & Gabbana, which are highly dependent on a very particular figure, might find it difficult to change their look.
