Manish Malhotra presents 'Ruhaaniyat' with Janhvi Kapoor at India Couture Week
The Fashion Design Council of India’s first digital edition of India Couture Week has seen couturiers take a different approach to showcasing their latest collections. In lieu of a traditional runway show, Malhotra launched Ruhaaniyat as a film where the viewer is taken through an opulent building as models wander the corridors dressed in the designer’s signature heavily embellished men’s and women’s traditional wear.
Malhotra described his collection as, "a celebration called life" seen in his use of bright and pastel hues and glittery embellishments. It was a, “tribute to our diverse heritage and soulful artistry of the Indian craftsmen, the Nazakat of Awadh, and the vibrance of Punjab,” said Malhotra, the FDCI shared on its Facebook page.
A dancing male model spun to show the intricate detailing and fullness of his jacket and others lounged on sofas or looked as if in conversation to give the atmosphere of a party. Notable looks included fully embellished sherwanis and a vast array of green hues for women’s kurtas, sarees, and lehengas.
Bollywood actress Janhvi Kapoor wore a glittering green lehenga and veil for the film, accessorised by statement jewellery. As Malhotra’s film drew to a close, Kapoor gave a last look to the camera to conclude both the film and the season of India Couture Week.
