Maku Textiles recently took its latest collection to Paris for the Tranoi trade show - Maku Textiles Private Limited- Facebook

Maku Textiles exhibited its upcoming spring/ summer 2020 collection at two international trade shows last month. The brand took part in the D&A trade show in New York from September 13 to 15 and at the Tranoi trade show at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris from September 27 to 30. Both events attract large numbers of international buyers and allowed the brand to network to facilitate further international expansion.

The Setaareh collection aims to express “the longing for spiritual connection,” the brand posted on Facebook. With a colour palette of blue and indigo hues, the collection features loose silhouettes and handloom textiles. Setaareh, meaning “star” in Persian, is also inspired by Sufi poets Rumi and Hafiz, “whose worlds of wisdom are embroidered into the garments.”

Maku Textiles was founded by designer Santanu Das as an exploration of his culture, inspired by his mother’s wardrobe. Originally launched in New York, Das returned to his home in India where he further discovered handloom and Khadi textiles. The brand now operates in India and regularly uses 100% Khadi cotton as well as hand dyed indigo. The brand is currently hiring at its Kolkata studio to build on its team.
