French luxury fashion house Maison Margiela on Monday opened a 2,900-ft² flagship in San Francisco. The store is the second to open in California and the fourth to open in the United States.

Situated in a town house in the heart of San Francisco's go-to luxury shopping destination, on Maiden Lane and next to Xanadu, a gallery located within the historic Frank Lloyd Wright building, the Maison Margiela boutique is comprised of two floors that span approximately 2,900 square-feet.

Inside, "customers will enter into a progressive ambiance accented with trompe-l’oeil techniques," states the official press release for the store opening.

Indeed, the ground floor’s aesthetic slowly evolves with layered effects and tromp l’oeil inflections. Dedicated to men’s ready-to-wear, fine leather goods, accessories and footwear, this floor features such design elements as a Pierre Paulin sofa and leather wrapped hand rails for the staircase.

Meanwhile, the second floor holds the women’s collections and boasts a white entrance gradually developed with a layered effect design along the wall, with this same effect implemented onto the oak wood floors.

Despite, or perhaps thanks to, these elements, the setting has a very Parisian feel overall, in line with the aesthetic of the famous house's other stores.

An exclusive cocktail event in celebration of the boutique’s opening is scheduled for the evening of Thursday, April 23.
