Lipstick brand and store LipHue has launched augmented reality features in its brick-and-mortar outlet in Hyderabad’s Banjara Hills to offer custom lipstick creation.

LipHue offers custom lipsticks created with AR technology - LipHue- Facebook

LipHue’s new AR technology allows customers to see how multiple lipsticks will look on them through a ‘smart mirror’. The brand can also custom create colours to match customers’ outfits and add essential oils. The brand claims that it is the first AR lipstick store in India.

“We always wanted to use technology to help enhance customer experience,” co-founder, Dyuti Waghray, told The Hindu.

“We use AR to help our customers in the decision-making process. It’s never easy to choose that one lip colour especially when you’re creating your own, right? The technology and knowhow came from within the family. It took us about eight months to conceptualise, build, test and deploy the same.”

Along with AR features, the store also features specially designed lighting which aims to replicate natural light. The idea is to show how lipsticks will look in natural light in-store as Waghray explained that the yellow lighting stores often use does not correctly show how products will look everyday.

“Given that what we offer at LipHue is the first of its kind in India, our experience with the government was very satisfying and we found them to be very supportive and encouraging during the certification process,” said Waghray about the brand’s registration process.

Sisters Dyuti and Avni Waghray launched the LipHue brand on September 5, 2019 in Hyderabad. All LipHue products are cruelty-free.
