“'Virtual Showroom' is an initiative designed to put the artist and label first,” Lakmé Fashion Week announced on Facebook. “Opening doors to fluid and streamlined interactions between buyers and designers - creating limitless business opportunities on a global stage.”

The shopping fair aims to enable up-and-coming clothing and accessories brands to link up with buyers and reach new customer demographics. It will also give the public a chance to shop new collections before they appear in brick-and-mortar stores. As the platform is online, it will facilitate international participation.

Applications for brands to take part in the Virtual Showroom close on February 26, according to Lakmé Fashion Week’s website. Designers wishing to apply to the programme must have been in business under one designer name for over a year and submit designs under men’s ready-to-wear or women’s ready-to-wear categories.

Lakmé Fashion Week has also created a new, 3D gallery on its website to showcase various aspects of its fashion week concept. Sponsors for the upcoming edition include Nexa, Tresemme, Ajio, Colors Infinity, Natural Diamond, 6 Degree, Boat, Voot, St Regis, and Bemberg, among others.
