May 27, 2019
Lakmé Fashion Week has partnered with Smartwater to launch the second edition of its young designer mentorship programme “The Platform". This season the theme is “Made Differently”.

Registration for the LFW mentorship programme is open until June 15 after which a jury will shortlist three designers. After being selected for The Platform, the three chosen designers will be mentored by a group of fashion professionals who will help them to create a collection to be shown at the upcoming Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2019. An overall winner will then be selected from the three designers and they will win a Rs 3 lakh ($4,311) scholarship and the opportunity to participate in a one week incubator programme.
LFW first launched The Platform at its Winter/ Festive 2018 edition with the aim of fostering new design talent in India. The programme seeks out designers who push design boundaries and last season’s winner was Kanika Goyal. This season’s applicants have been instructed to showcase “cutting edge technology, innovation in fabrics/materials or surface application,” according to The Platform’s press release.
“A multitude of emerging designers have identified the potential of this program making it a success during its first run,” said Jaspreet Chandok, IMG Reliance’s Vice President and head of fashion, in a press release. “We are happy to launch the second edition of The Platform in association with smartwater to hone and nurture new designer talent in India.”
